What Is Lumenis IPL?
Lumenis IPL is a revolutionary treatment that gently and effectively treats your eyelid inflammation with maximal safety, comfort and full customization to your skin type and condition.
Is IPL Safe?
Lumenis IPL is trusted by leading professionals around the world and is FDA cleared for the treatment of dry eyes. Lumenis energy-based treatments must be performed by a physician or an authorized provider in your region.
How does IPL help treat dry eye?
During treatment, the light absorbed generates heat in the dermal layer of the skin, which treats the underlying eye lid inflammation, it also opens the meibomian glands, making it easier for the essential oils to flow into your tears.
What is expected during an IPL treatment?
A cooling gel is applied to the treatment area and the smooth glass surface of the IPL hand piece is placed directly over the treatment area. On average, the entire procedure takes around 15-20 minutes.
Results and Re-Treatments of IPL
Although many people notice improvement in dry eye symptoms after their second treatment, it is highly recommended to have an initial series of 4 IPL treatments to be performed once every 3-4 weeks to help with long term success in treating both chronic dry eye disease and MGD.
After the initial series of IPL treatments, most people will require only occasional maintenance treatments, depending on the severity of the condition.
What is Radiofrequency Therapy (RF)?
Radiofrequency Therapy (RF) is a safe and effective in-office treatment for dry eyes. During the procedure, RF delivers a warming electrical current to the eyelids.
RF melts the thick oil secretions, from the meibomian glands to improve the quality of tears, and also reduces any inflammation around your eyes that may be contributing to your dry eyes.
How Does RF Treatment Work?
During the procedure, your eye doctor will use a RF handheld device to gently massage around your eye using a soothing gel. This sends the electrical current into your skin and creates a warming sensation.
The RF treatment causes no pain or discomfort, and takes on average 30 minutes to complete.
Results and Re-Treatments of RF Treatment
While certain patients notice immediate improvements in their dry eye symptoms, it generally takes a series of treatments to experience a noticeable and long-lasting change.
